The Tricky Words Team

Hi! I'm a lifelong educators with a deep passion for teaching children how to read. Although I'm now retired, teaching remains a core part of who I am. Over the course of 30 years, I taught kindergarten and second grade for 15 years, followed by another 15 years working with 5th and 6th grade students in a Title I intervention program. I also served as the district reading coach, supporting classrooms from kindergarten through sixth grade.
Throughout my career, I've spent countless hours with beginning readers and immersed myself in everything I could find about how to support them. One thing was always clear: students need extra support mastering those 'tricky' high-frequency words that don't follow the usual phonics rules. I dreamed of having the time and tools to create a program focused on just that - and now, that dream has become a reality.
Thanks to my son, who graduated with a degree in computer science, and my daughter, now teaching first grade in my very own former classroom, we've brought this vision to life. Together, we've created a program designed to meet a need I've felt for decades - helping students master difficult high-frequency words that are critical to reading and writing success.
